Depending on wind and weather, this schedule is flexible.

  • 10 a.m. - Opening Ceremony; Registration begins
  • 10:15 a.m. - Kitemaker/Master Kitemaker Competition
  • 12 noon - Children’s Competition
  • 1 p.m. - Children’s Award Ceremony
  • 2 p.m. - Hot Tricks Showdown
  • 3 p.m. - Rokkaku Challenge; Awards Ceremony

Kthe "Field of Colors" ground display.Launching of the 150-kite arch train display, which was created to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution in 1996.

Kitemaking demonstrations and hands-on activities sponsored by local kite clubs, West Indian American Kiters Association, The Drachen Foundation, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

Competitors vote for one another in the Competitors’ Choice Award.

Audience voting for the People's Choice Award.
